Fugu Smock Prices in Ghana
In 2026 you will see fugu smocks in Ghana from about GHS 400 up to GHS 1,000 and beyond. Around GHS 400 to GHS 700 is where most marketplace listings sit, and much of that is machine-finished. Hand-woven pieces start higher. Ours are GHS 750, GHS 850 and GHS 1,000 depending on the weave.
Both ends of that range are real prices for real garments. They are just not the same garment.
What is on the market right now
Walk through Kantamanto or scroll Jiji and you will find smocks at GHS 400. You will also find them at GHS 350. Those prices are not fake and the sellers are not cheating anybody. Here is what usually sits behind them.
Most cheap smocks are cut from wide machine-loom cloth. One big piece of fabric, printed or woven with a check on it, cut into a smock shape and sewn. No strips. No joins. No weaver. A tailor can turn out several in a day, so the price reflects a day of tailoring, not two weeks of weaving.
Some are genuinely hand-woven but made quickly: few wide strips, seams that do not match, a hem left rough. That is entry-level work and it has a place. A young man buying his first smock for a friend's wedding does not need a GHS 1,000 piece.
Then there is proper hand-woven strip cloth from Daboya, Tamale, Yendi or Bolgatanga, sewn by someone who has been doing it for twenty years. That is where the price goes up, and it goes up for a reason you can see with your own eyes.
Why ours cost more
Our prices are GHS 750, GHS 850 and GHS 1,000. That is above the marketplace average and we are not going to pretend it is not.
Three things account for it.
The weaving is hand work, all of it. We work with more than 200 master weavers in Tamale, Yendi and Bolgatanga. Every strip on every smock came off a hand loom. Nobody in that chain is a machine.
The strip count is high and the check is matched. Turn one of ours inside out and count the joins. Then look at how the pattern runs across each seam. Matching a check across twelve seams takes skill and it takes time, and it is the difference you notice from across a room.
The top tier takes 10 to 21 days. Our GHS 1,000 pieces carry hand embroidery, inlay work and gold-thread accents, and they are woven by our most senior people. Three weeks of one person's hands is what that money buys.
If you want a smock to wear to a party on Saturday and GHS 450 is your budget, buy the GHS 450 one. That is an honest answer. If you are buying for your own wedding, or for your father, or to keep for twenty years, buy the hand-woven one.

Nineteen colorways on the Ghana store, in three tiers.
- Heritage Classic, GHS 750. Plain solids and quiet two-tones: White, Grey, Grey and White, Taupe, Brown, Bronze, Charcoal.
- Signature Profile, GHS 850. Patterned pieces with a finer check: Brown Check, Blue Patchwork, Grey and Pink, Black and Yellow, Blue and White, Forest Green.
- Presidential Elite, GHS 1,000. The ceremonial pieces: Black and Gold, Navy and Gold, Blue and Gold, Cobalt Check, Olive Check, Navy Blue.
All One Size, cut generously, fitting a 36 to 52 inch chest. If it will not fit you, send your measurements and we weave to them. No extra charge.
Paying and delivery
Pay with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash or card. Delivery is a flat GHS 30 anywhere in Ghana, and free on orders above GHS 1,500. So two smocks arrive free.

What to check before you pay anyone
This applies to us as much as to anybody else. Ask for these and a real seller will be glad you did.
Turn it inside out. Hand-woven strip cloth has vertical seams running the full length of the garment, every few inches. If the inside shows only two side seams, it came off a wide machine loom.
Follow one stripe across a seam. On real strip cloth the pattern is built from the joins and you can see it step across. On printed cloth the pattern flows over the seam with no break at all.
Look at the back of the fabric. Woven cloth shows the pattern on both sides. Printed cloth is pale on the reverse.
Check the hem. It should be woven closed and finished neatly. A rough or fringed hem is not how a northern tailor finishes a smock, no matter what the photo showed.
Ask where it was woven. Not "the north". A town. Daboya, Tamale, Yendi, Bolgatanga. A seller who cannot name one does not know who made it.
Ask before you send MoMo, not after. Especially on a social media listing with no shop address. Anyone selling something real will answer.
